Our Parshas discuss some of the complex laws pertaining to Tzara’as, a skin discoloration which renders a person ritually impure.
Someone who has the symptoms of Tzara’as must be seen by a Cohen, and judging by the various signs the Cohen pronounces it pure or impure.
A person who is afflicted with Tzara’as must dwell alone outside of the city until it is healed. Once the prescribed time has passed, they must undergo a rigorous process of purification to return to their city and community.
We find out why the Torah seemingly adds extra words in the Pasuk.
We learn why only a Cohen is allowed to pronounce a rash Tzara'as.

We are about to celebrate Pesach, the holiday of freedom in the most unique set of circumstances. Instead of keeping to the beautiful tradition of having guests by our Seder table, we will just be with our immediate family or even alone.
Yet we say in the Haggadah at the beginning of Magid, “כל דכפין ייתי וייכל- Whoever is hungry, come and eat,- כל דצריך ייתי ויפסח - Whoever is needy, come and celebrate Pesach.”
We learn how we can fulfill this amazing tradition during isolation.

Our Parsha begins the third book of the Torah, Sefer Vayikra. The book of Vayikra primarily speaks about the work that Kohanim and Leviim would do in the Mishkan or Beis Hamikdash.
The Parsha starts off with the first time Hashem speaks to Moshe Rabbienu from within the Mishkan. He relates to Moshe the various types of sacrifices that can be brought on the Mizbe’ach. The Olah, an elective sacrifice that was burnt entirely and solely for G-d. The Chatas, an offering that would atone for sins that were done unintentionally. The Shelamim, a voluntary sacrifice that was brought to thank G-d and was eaten by the donor, Kohanim, and Leviim.
We find out why there is a small Alef at the end of the word Vayikra?
We learn the different ways Hashem can speak to prophets and how it applies to our unprecedented situation.
May Hashem continue to give us all much health during this unprecedented time, and heal those affected!

Our Parshas begins with Moshe descending from Mt. Sinai with the second pair of Luchos. He did so only after successfully attaining forgiveness from Hashem for the sin of the Golden Calf. The Torah portions then go through the construction of the Mishkan and its components. From the beams and sockets that comprised walls of the Mishkan to the Menorah and priestly garments that were worn during their service.
We find out why Moshe gave an exact accounting of what was donated for the construction of the Mishkan and what is was used for?
We learn what it means to be honest and virtuous before G-d!
I wish you all much health in this very unprecedented circumstance.

Our Parsha tells us the story of our biggest lapse of judgment in our history, a mistake that almost caused G-d to destroy the Jewish nation. A transgression that killed thousands of people and has consequences are felt till this very day, the sin of the Golden Calf.
The story begins when Hashem tells Moshe Rabbienu to come back up the mountain after the giving of the Torah. He was to stay on the mountain for forty days and nights to study the Torah and bring down the Luchos to the Jewish people. However, while he was up there, some people intentionally miscalculated his return date and began to spread the word that Moshe has died. They went to Aaron and Chur, Miriam’s son, demanding that they make an Idol to lead them in Moshe’s stead.

Our Parsha continues to speak about the building and service of the Mishkan. G-d tells Moshe that only the purest of olive oils can be used for the daily kindling of the Menorah. Hashem appoints Aaron and his sons to serve as Kohanim in the Mishkan on behalf of the Jewish people. During their service, the Kohanim must wear the four special Priestly garments, Michnasayim-underpants, Ketones-a large tunic, Avnet-a sash, and Mitznefes-a turban.
However, the High Priest would wear four extra garments during his service, the Me'ila, a blue sleeveless robe with the lower hem fringed with small golden bells and pomegranate shaped tassels. The Ephod, an embroidered vest with a gemstone on each shoulder, which the names of each tribe engraved upon it. The Choshen, a breastplate with twelve gemstones, each had engraved the name of one of the tribes. The Tzitz, a golden plate inscribed with the name of G-d, which was attached to his turban.
We find out why the Torah seemingly repeats itself regarding the daily sacrifices.
We learn unique ways of connecting with Hashem at different times.
Happy Purim!!

Our Parsha begins with Hashem commanding Moshe to solicit donations from the Jewish people for the construction of the Mishkan, a sanctuary that would be His dwelling place in this world.
They were to donate gold, silver, copper, and precious stones. Specialty red, blue and purple wool, linen, animal skins, and acacia wood. Hashem then gave Moshe exact and detailed instructions on how the Mishkan was to be built.
We find out why Hashem says, “They shall make for Me a Mishkan that I will dwell in them,” signifying multiple locations instead of one dedicated place?
We learn the true purpose of creation.
Have a happy Adar!

Our Parsha begins with Hashem giving the Jewish people 53 new commandments. He gave them the laws regarding the treatment of slaves, personal injury, murder, and the requirements of a person who is a guardian for another’s property. The Mitzvah to see the Beis Hamikdash 3 times a year, the laws of shemitah, sacrifices, and returning a lost object.
Moshe then tells the Jewish nation what rewards they will receive for keeping Hashem’s commandments. There will be no miscarriages, the borders of Israel will be massive, and they will conquer the land quickly with the help of G-d. The Parsha finishes with Hashem summoning Moshe Rabbienu back up Mt. Sini to study the Torah for forty days and forty nights.
We find out why G-d chose us from all the other nations of the world.

This week’s Torah portion includes the Ten Commandments, making it one of the most significant and important Parsha’s in the entire Torah.
Hashem, Himself came down to this physical world and gave us the Ten Commandments. G-d confirmed that we are his chosen people, as the Pasuk says, (19:5-6) “If you obey Me and keep My covenant, you will be to Me a treasure out of all peoples, for the entire earth is Mine. You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you (Moshe) shall tell to the Jewish people”.

Our Parsha begins with Pharaoh regretting his decision to set the Jewish nation free, he decided to chase after the Jewish people and finish his Jewish problem.
As the Jewish nation noticed the Egyptian army approaching they began to panic, they cried out to Moshe Rabbeinu, (14:11) “Is there no graves in Egypt that you have taken us to die in the desert? Why have you taken us out of Egypt?” Moshe Rabbeinu replied, (14:13-14), “Don’t be afraid! Stand firm and see the salvation that G-d will do for you today. G-d will fight for you, and you will remain silent.”
We find out why Hashem took the Jewish people to the Sea of Reeds and not directly to the land of Israel.
We learn the importance of why.

Our Parsha begins with Moshe and Aaron warning Pharaoh about the upcoming plague of locusts. After Moshe and Aaron left, Pharaoh’s ministers begged him to set the Jewish nation free, they argued that the Egyptian people were suffering excessive amounts of pain. Pharaoh then called back Moshe and Aaron and told them he will allow them to serve G-d in the desert, however, they must leave their children behind as collateral. Moshe and Aaron refused his offer, and Pharaoh stubbornly refused to allow the Jewish people to go with no prior conditions.
When the plague of locusts and darkness concluded, Pharaoh called Moshe back and offered to let the Jewish nation leave without their animals. When Moshe refused, Pharaoh sent him away and warned him to never appear in his presence again (10:28) “You shall no longer see my face, for the day you see my face, you shall die!”
The last plague, the passing of all firstborn started at midnight, as the death toll rose, Pharaoh, who was a firstborn himself, ran to Moshe and told him to lead the Jewish people out of Egypt immediately. The Jewish nation gathered their belongings, and the Egyptians valuables and left Egypt midday on the fifteenth of Nissan.
We find out why Moshe repeats the Mitzvah of telling this story to your children three separate times.
We learn the importance of consistent growth and education.

The Torah begins the story of the Jewish nation’s slavery and subsequent departure from the land of Egypt.
Our Parsha starts off by giving us some context to the Jewish people’s situation at that time. Yosef and all his brothers had passed on, and a new Pharaoh became king over Egypt who did not want to acknowledge Yosef and his accomplishments. As the Jewish people began to flourish and prosper, the new ruler became fearful of their growing numbers and resolved to find a solution to his “Jewish problem.”
His strategy was to burden the Jewish people with so much work that they would have no time to have more children. However, Hashem had a different plan for the Jewish nation, as the Pasuk says, (1:12) “As much as the Egyptians would afflict them, so did they multiply and grow in strength.”
We find out why Pharaoh differentiates Moshe and Aaron’s work with the Jewish people’s labor.
We learn the consequential concept of “Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh Bazeh,” that all Jews are responsible for each other.

Our Parsha begins Ya’akov Avinu asking Yosef to swear that he would bury him in the land of Israel. Ya’akov then blessed Yosef’s two sons, Efraim and Menasha, elevating them to the status of his own sons and as tribes within the Jewish people. Ya’akov then blesses his own children and assigns them their role as a tribe amongst the Jewish nation.
At the age of 147 years old, Ya’akov Avinu passed away in the land of Egypt. A funeral procession consisting of his children and grandchildren, Egyptian ministers and lay leaders accompanied Ya’akov to his final resting place in the Meoras HaMachpelah, where he was buried next to his parents and grandparents.
We find out why Hashem removed the Divine spirit from Ya’akov when he tried to tell his children when the ultimate redemption would occur.

At that point, Yosef could not restrain himself any longer. He asked all the Egyptians to leave the room, and he revealed his identity to his brothers: “I am Yosef!

Our Parsha begins with Ya’akov Avinu returning home to Cana’an after more than twenty years of absence. However he was still fearful of his brother Esav, so he sent messengers to him a message of reconciliation; however, they returned with an ominous report, Esav was preparing to “greet him” with 400 men. In response, Ya’akov sent him an extravagant gift of hundreds of cattle, donkeys, and camels.
One of the other stories in this week’s Torah portion is a drama involving Leah’s daughter, Dina. The story begins with Dina leaving her camp and venturing out into the city of Shechem. As she entered the town, she met the crown prince, also named Shechem, who abducted and violated her and kept her hostage. His father, the governor of the city, approached Ya’akov and told him that his son was infatuated with Dina and wished to marry her.
Yaakov’s sons agreed to his proposal, provided that all the men of the city would agree to circumcise themselves. So at the urging of Shechem and his father, the people of Shechem agreed to this strange request. However, on the third day following their circumcision, Dina’s two brothers, Shimon and Levi, went to the defenseless city and killed all men who were recovering from the circumcision, and then liberated Dina from Shechem’s house.
We find out why Rashi emphasizes that Dina was the daughter of Leah?

Then, G‑d appeared and informed Yaakov, that He would give this very land to his descendants, and that He would safeguard him until he returned to Cana’an. The next morning, Yaakov woke up and recognized the holiness of this mountain and named it Beis E-l (“the house of G‑d”).

Our Parsha introduces us to our third and final forefather: Ya’akov Avinu.
Even from birth, Ya’akov and Esav were polar opposites; the firstborn Esav was naturally red and hairy, while Ya’akov was small, and only managed to emerge because he grabbed Esav’s heel when he was leaving the womb.
As the two grew older, the differences became more evident. Esav was a man of the field and an expert hunter, contrasting Ya’akov, who was a gentle and modest person. Esav also served idols and married women from Cana’an, while Ya’akov spent his time studying Torah and developing his relationship with Hashem.
We find out why Yitzchak loved Esav and wanted to give him the blessings.

Our Parsha begins with the passing of Sarah at 127 years old. Avraham negotiated with Ephron to buy a plot of land in Chevron, known as Mearas HaMachpelah for 400 shekels, to use as a family burial ground for the next generations.
When Avraham finished mourning for Sarah, he sent his most trusted servant, Eliezer, to find a wife for his son Yitzchak, in the land of Aram. When Eliezer arrived in the city, he went to a well and encountered a young girl who offered to give him and his camels water to drink. Our Parsha contains one of the most fundamental and meaningful stories in all of Judaism — Akeidas Yitzchak, the binding of Yitzchak. When Yitzchak was thirty-seven years old, Hashem appeared to Avraham and told him, “Take your son, your only son Yitzchak and offer him as a sacrifice”. This week marks one year since we started the Parsha Perspective, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank some people who have helped me to make the Parsha Perspective a reality. Thank you to Zev Segal, Orestes Sgoupakos, and Shlomo Hess for all your advice and support during the past year, may G-d continue to bless you and your family with much health success and happiness!
I would also like to thank each one of you for listening and sharing the podcast each week, and I hope you have gained as much as I have from the Parsha Perspective during this past year.
Our Parsha begins by introducing Noach, a person who remained righteous and faithful to G-d while the rest of society was in a state of anarchy and sin. Hashem informed Noach that a flood would soon destroy all of civilization, and only he and his family would survive by living in a ark that he was to build.
The rain lasted forty days and nights, causing the waters to reach even the tallest mountains. All humans and animals that were not stowed away on the teivah quickly drowned. The waters continued to churn for one hundred and fifty days until G-d commanded it to subdue.
We find out why Noach is not considered to be one of the forefathers of the Jewish people.
We learn the necessity for Unity between the Jewish people!

I hope all of you had an incredible Sukkos and took advantage of the tremendous spirituality that surrounded us during the past few weeks.
As we enter the new year with a clean slate, we also restart the cycle of reading the Torah, starting again from Parshas Bereishis. However, not only is this a physical cycle but a spiritual one as well. We have the opportunity to gain a more profound understanding of the Torah and its lessons. For each year a new and unique level of spirituality is given to the world which is relevant to its day and age.
We learn why the Torah begins with the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet?
We learn how to tackle the new year!

Sukkos is a holiday of happiness and unity. We celebrate Sukkos in commemoration of the miraculous cloud of glory that Hashem provided the Jewish people during their forty-year journey through the desert.
We observe the holiday by eating, drinking, and spending as much time as possible in the sukkah. We are to bind together the arba minim (four types of fruit): an Esrog (citron); a Lulav (palm branch); three Hadassim (myrtle twigs); and two Arava (willow twigs).”
We find out why one of the Arba Minim does not have laws regarding its size or origin?
We learn the power of unity on a communal and individual level!
Have a meaningful and joyous Sukkos!!

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement and the holiest day of the entire year. It is a day in which we are the most in-touch with ourselves and our essence, and closest to G-d Almighty. It is a day that, during the time of the Beis Hamikdash, allowed the holiest person (the Kohen Gadol) to enter the most sacred place in the entirety of the world — the Kodesh HaKodashim, the holy of holies.
Yom Kippur is the day we are forgiven for all sins between man and G-d.
We find out why Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement is after the Day of Judgment?
We learn the five-step process of Teshuvah.
May Hashem seal us this (and every) year in the Book of Life, the Book of Health, and the Book of Happiness!
Have an easy fast and a meaningful Yom Kippur!

Our Parsha begins with laws for when the Jewish people will settle in the land of Israel. The first mitzvah is Bikurim, the requirement to bring the first fruits to the Beis Hamikdash. This only applies to fruits and produce that are among the seven crops that Israel is known for: wheat, barley, dates, figs, grapes, pomegranates, and olives.
We find out why Bikurim is the first Mitzvah the Jewish people are commanded to do once they settled into the land of Israel.
We learn the power of gratitude.
