Our Parsha concludes the first book of the Torah, Sefer Berashis. We begin with Ya'akov living the best seventeen years of his life in Egypt; as the end of his life neared, he called for Yosef to visit him.
When Yosef arrived, Ya'akov asked him to swear he would bury him with his parents in Israel. After he swore, Ya'akov then blessed Yosef's two sons, Efraim and Menasha. He elevates them to the status of his sons and as tribes among the Jewish people.

Our Parsha begins with the passing of Sarah at 127 years old. Avraham negotiated with Ephron to buy a plot of land in Chevron, known as Mearas HaMachpelah, for 400 shekels. This cave would be a family burial plot for the next generations.
When Avraham finished mourning for Sarah, he sent his most trusted servant, Eliezer, to find a wife for his son Yitzchak.

Our Parsha begins with G-d appearing to Avraham Avinu just after having a circumcision. To ease his pain, G-d made the sun exceptionally hot so there would be no travelers for Avraham to host in his tent.
But after seeing how much it bothered Avraham that he had no one to help, G-d sent three angels in the form of men to visit him.

Our Parsha introduces Noach, a man who remained faithful to G-d while the rest of society descended into chaos and anarchy. G-d told Noach that a Mabul (flood) would soon destroy all of civilization.
Only he and his family would survive in a Teviah, an ark he was to build. He was given the ark's dimensions and commanded to bring 7 of every kosher animal and a pair of every non-kosher animal.
We learned from this Torah portion, where we get the strength to continue and endure despite all odds and circumstances!

This week is Shabbos Shuvah, the Shabbos of Teshuva. Commencing with Rosh Hashanah, we embark on the Aseres Ymey Teshuva, the ten days dedicated to Teshuva, culminating in Yom Kippur.
Most of our Torah portion is a profound song with lasting significance; it was sung by Moshe on the day he passed away. He calls the the heavens and earth as witnesses as he reminds the nation that G-d is just and the source of all their blessings.
We find the deeper translation of the word הצור - The rock.
We gain some perspective as we approach the holiest time of the year, Yom Kippur, the day of atonement.

This week's Parsha Perspective is in the merit of the Ohr Hachaim Hakadosh, Rav Chaim Ibn Attar, one of the commentaries I quote frequently. Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the 15th of Tammuz, we observed his Yahrzeit, the anniversary of his passing.
he release date of this episode coincides with the fast day known as Shivah Asar B'Tammuz, the 17th of Tammuz.
This day marks the beginning of a three-week mourning period for the destruction of Jerusalem and both Beis Hamikdash (Temples). May this fast be the final one in exile, leading to the joyous celebration of the ultimate redemption.
